The Southbound is a specially crafted 40 ft. fiberglass sport fishing charter vessel constructed in Key West specifically tailored for fishing adventures in the waters nearby.

Designed to deliver an exceptional deep-sea saltwater fishing experience to anglers of all skill levels and ages, the Southbound targets a wide range of species commonly found in Key West waters – from marlin, sailfish, and dolphin to snapper, wahoo, varied mackerels, grouper, and even sharks!

Equipped with a variety of fishing tackle suited for different anglers and diverse conditions encountered in the southernmost waters, the Southbound offers an array of gear from 80 lb. trolling rods to 15 lb. spinning reels. The preferred tackle for trolling boasts a 30-lb. test line.

Captain Rich notes, “Thirty-pound test line has proven to be an excellent choice for various fish sizes – it’s sturdy enough for larger fish yet light enough to give smaller fish a thrilling fight.”

With 30-lb. tackle, the captain has successfully reeled in sailfish, wahoo, dolphin, tuna, grouper, and even white and blue marlin. More experienced anglers may opt for 15 and 20 lb. spinning tackle, which the Southbound readily provides.

During your fishing escapade on the Southbound, your fishing achievements are showcased online – Captain Rich regularly updates his charter’s daily catch, enabling you to stay informed about the active fish species in Key West and those caught aboard the Southbound.

Notable recent catches include the release of three sailfish on April 14th, with another sailfish caught just two days before, indicating a healthy sailfish presence!

April 11th was eventful, as Captain Rich reveals missing out on capturing a Sailfish, hammerhead shark, Bonito, and Cobia but managing to secure a dolphin for dinner – a recent victory was snagging a hammerhead shark a few days earlier.
